Lyric Opera of Los Angeles was founded in 2002 by Laura Sage in order to bring lost operatic gems back to the stage. After an initial production of Mozart's "die Entfürung aus dem Serail" (which hadn't been being performed very often in the area at the time), LOLA put on the West Coast premiere staged production of Heinrich Marschner's "Der Vampyr". The production met with great success and marked the beginning of a series of premiere production put on by the company, including: - "Cendrillon" by Pauline Viardot
- "Goyescas" by Enrique Granados
- "Rita" by Gaetano Donizetti
- "Abu Hassan" by C. M. von Weber
- "Manon Lescaut" by D.F.E. Auber
- "Un Giorno di Regno" by Giuseppe Verdi
LOLA has been fortunate to have some of the brightest and best singers in the area perform in our productions, including Roberto Perlas Gomez, Ani Maldjian, Dennis Rupp, Omar Crook, Gabriel Silva and Eric Carampatan. We have built a reputation for high artistic & musical quality on a shoe-string budget. The artists who work with us return time and time again because they find it to be a rewarding and unique experience.
In 2010, Lyric Opera of Los Angeles will be coming back from their 3-year hiatus as an official Partner with Los Angeles Opera in the Ring Festival. We will be putting on the rare, early Wagner opera "Die Feen" (The Fairies), written when Wagner was just 20 years old. Please sign up for our online newsletter in order to receive notification when dates and venue are set, as well as to pre-order your tickets to this unique event. This opera has never been staged in the United States, although it did receive one concert performance by the New York City Opera in 1981. You won't want to miss it!
